Day 33 - Part B: The Produce meets the Press

Ok, so the meeting was not as monumental as Mr. Smith goes to Washington, but it was the first interview for the program.  I met with a reported from the Freelance Star, in the Fredericksburg area.  We talked about the program, we talked about where funding has come from for the first year, and we talked about what is taking place this weekend, the kickoff of the Farm Market Gleaning project/program.  It is so exciting to talk about and in essence get the word out about what is happening.

It is also really nice to show the community, especially the areas that were against the economic stimulus, that all of that nah-saying is paying off for communities that they live in.  AKA: that money is benefiting you and your community.  Investment in the local community to build up the economy try to help support the local folks there.  So important to bring things back to a local level, and this money is doing that.  Communities and officials say "I haven't seen any of that ARRA (stimulus) money..." and I reply with: well look here, I'm here because stimulus money made it possible.  The money made it possible to serve YOUR community.  So... so support the program, because it ultimately benefits you and your community.

I can't believe it's really going to start.  The Farm market Gleaning program is really going to start in a fuller more supported sense this week.  In just a matter of days really.  Only 6 weeks into the program and I'm making a difference, getting things done.

Next step: Take over the produce world... ok not really... but close.
